Ferme Communitaire Experimental

Fercomex is a project that has been underway for 10 years now. We have a vision to increase the number of "Farmers" in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The country has a population of around 58 million and covers an area of approximately 2 million square kilometres.

Our project is located in the south east corner of the country near the border with Zambia, on the outskirts of the second largest city, Lubumbashi.

As you can see on the map, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is in West Africa and shares borders with 9 other African countries: Angola, Zambia, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Sudan, Central African Republic, and the Republic of the Congo. We achieved independence from Belgium in the early 60's and experienced many years of war and unrest following this.

This is the road into Lubumbashi, and a view of the buildings downtown.

As soon as you leave the city though, conditions change and the roads are rough.
